Patchy fog Tuesday morning, then Portland sees mostly sunny skies; high 49

Cold nighttime temperatures and some morning fog that clears to partly sunny skies by the afternoon are the results of high pressure that is still present over the Portland/Vancouver area on Tuesday.

At 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a temperature assessment of the metro region revealed that most places, including downtown, were below 32 degrees. The temperature in Hillsboro was in the 20s in some places, including the Hillsboro airport, which recorded 25 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, there will be occasional wind gusts of up to 30 mph in eastern Multnomah County as breezy conditions persist along the western Columbia River Gorge. There may be gusts of up to 60 mph across the gorge, especially at Corbett and Crown Point.

Additionally, that wind will assist prevent fog in Portland’s eastern regions. Another day of persistent fog and extremely mild temperatures that barely get into the low 40s is in store for the central and southern Willamette Valley.

Although there will be a lot of frost in Portland in the morning, Tuesday’s maximum temperatures should reach roughly 49 degrees under largely sunny skies.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be nearly same, with a cold morning and sunny skies in the afternoon. The temperature will peak at almost fifty degrees.

Models indicate that the high pressure ridge is fading and that a weak system is approaching, which will bring clouds and a small probability of rain to the area. As a result, the meteorological service anticipates some changes in weather patterns by Thursday.

After roughly 10 a.m. on Thursday, Portland has a 30% chance of rain. The sky will remain largely overcast. The high temperature will be close to fifty degrees.
