Parkrose brings in former Grant, Portland State star as football coach

Football aficionados in the Portland region are probably aware with the new head coach of the Parkrose football club.

Parkrose revealed the hiring of Paris Penn as the football coach for the Broncos on Wednesday.

Penn attended and graduated from Grant High School in 2012. Penn was an all-state honorable mention and the Portland Interscholastic League Offensive Player of the Year as a quarterback. Penn completed 72 of 126 passes for 1,274 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions in his final season. In addition, he rushed for five additional TDs and 701 yards.

Penn decided to attend Portland State after high school in order to remain in the city. He spent the majority of his tenure with the Vikings as a backup quarterback, but in 2015 and 2016, he was utilized as a pass receiver and runner in a utility role.

Penn ran 126 times for 653 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2016. In addition, he caught 26 passes for 256 yards and four scores. He tied for first place on the squad in running touchdowns and finished third in both receptions and rushing yards.

A struggling Parkrose football team is being taken over by Penn. Playing in Class 4A for the last three seasons, the Broncos have a 4-33 record overall over the past four years.

Penn works as a counselor at Parkrose in addition to his responsibilities as a football coach.
