Oregon under a high wind watch Tuesday and Wednesday

At 11:51 a.m. on Monday, the NWS issued a high wind watch for the Oregon Central Coast, Clatsop County Coast, and Tillamook County Coast that would last from Tuesday at 1 p.m. to Wednesday at 4 a.m.

“South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 65 mph possible for beaches and headlands,” it states. “The beaches and headlands have a 40–60% possibility of experiencing gusts of 58 mph or more. Inland coastal settlements have substantially lower odds (10–20%).

Damaged winds have the potential to topple electrical wires and trees. There could be widespread power disruptions. The weather agency warns that travel could be challenging, particularly for cars with a lot of visibility. “Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.”
