With tight ends coach Jon Boyer leaving for Michigan State, Oregon State has its second offseason vacancy on the football coaching staff.
Boyer is leaving OSU to take a position as quarterbacks coach at Michigan State for former Beavers coach Jonathan Smith, according to a source who spoke to The Oregonian/OregonLive. For six years, Boyer worked under Smith at Oregon State as an offensive quality control assistant.
Boyer spent a season coaching tight ends under Trent Bray, who is currently the coach at Oregon State.
This offseason, Boyer and Thomas Ford will leave Oregon State as assistant coaches. Ford, a running back coach, was appointed head coach of Idaho in December.
Before joining Smith’s staff in Corvallis, Boyer, a quarterback at Northern Colorado, served as an assistant coach at both Northern Colorado and Colorado Mesa.
