Oregon State has two MLS SuperDraft first rounders for the first time in school history

When Enzo Newman and Sergi Solans were chosen in the first round of Friday’s sMLS SuperDraft, Oregon State men’s soccer set a program record.

A redshirt freshman forward named Solans was selected by Real Salt Lake with the 30th pick, the last pick of the first round, while Newman, a sophomore defender, was selected by FC Dallas with the 11th pick.

Oregon State has never had two first-round selections in a single draft. In program history, Newman is the fourth-highest draft selection. In the previous year’s draft, Logan Farrington was selected third, Khiry Shelton was selected second in 2015, and Danny Mwanga was selected first in 2004.

In consecutive drafts, Dallas has chosen a Beaver in the first round; in 2024, Farrington was selected by the Toros.

New York selected Oregon State midfielder Armas Farnos in the third round. Farnos was selected 84th overall.

In the last two MLS SuperDrafts, a total of six Oregon State players were chosen. Javier Armas joined Atlanta United last year, while Farrington and Turner Humphrey joined FC Dallas. With Newman and Solans, Oregon State now has seven first-round MLS draft selections in its program.

California native Newman has been a Beaver regular for the last two seasons. He was named to the WCC second team and started every game this season. Newman started nine games last season, five of which were during Oregon State’s quest for the College Cup.

This season, Solans scored 14 goals, which is the fifth-highest total in OSU history. With 14 goals, Solans is ranked seventh in the country. He received United Soccer Coaches all-region recognition and was named the WCC offensive player of the year.
