Oregon sends firefighter teams to fight destructive Southern California wildfires

Twelve teams of firemen are being sent by Oregon to Southern California to help fight the destructive, out-of-control wildfires that are still tearing across the Los Angeles area, burning houses and leaving thousands without electricity.

On Tuesday night, the day the fires began, the Oregon State Fire Marshal received a request for assistance. The state is sending 240 firefighters and 60 fire engines, the state fire marshal department stated in a release on Wednesday.

According to an email from Oregon State Fire Marshal spokeswoman John Hendricks, the teams are anticipated to arrive in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon.

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph have caused Southern California fires to exhibit exceptional fire behavior as of Wednesday; the state fire marshal predicted that the wind conditions would persist until Thursday.

Clackamas and Multnomah counties are among the counties from which the Oregon firefighting teams were recruited, according to the fire marshal.

According to an email from Portland Fire Bureau spokesperson Rick Graves, Multnomah County is providing a total of 22 firemen, including three fire engines and 13 firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue.

In an email, Graves stated, “It is an honor to be asked to assist in this devastating fire.” We will concentrate on our area of expertise, structural protection.
