Numerous national media outlets have reported that U.S. Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer of Oregon is a candidate for the position of labor secretary under President-elect Donald Trump.
Republican Chavez-DeRemer, a former mayor of the Happy Valley, is wrapping up a two-year stint as the representative for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, which runs from Bend to south of Portland. In one of the most costly and widely followed House campaigns in the nation, she lost her reelection effort this month to Democratic state representative Janelle Bynum after flipping the district to Republican control in 2022.
