Oregon Rep. Chavez-DeRemer, Trump’s pick for labor secretary, says she received bomb threat

President-elect Donald Trump appointed Oregon Republican U.S. Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer to head the federal Department of Labor, and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged Wednesday that it had responded to a threat against her.

Chavez-DeRemer tweeted that she and her family were safe after receiving a pipe bomb threat at their Happy Valley residence on Tuesday.

She remarked that this type of violence damages entire communities in addition to the intended targets. It is not a legitimate form of protest, and it will not stop President Trump and his administration from carrying out their duties for the American people.

A Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson acknowledged that the FBI is conducting an investigation and that the office reacted to a threat, but he would not comment on any details. Chavez-DeRemer’s spokesperson did not immediately answer inquiries.

In a statement, the FBI stated that it was aware of multiple bomb threats and swatting activities directed at nominees and appointees for the upcoming administration.

We take any possible threats seriously, and as usual, we urge the public to notify law authorities right away of anything they suspect,” the statement added.

Several officials received violent, un-American threats, including bomb threats and swatting—a term used to describe prank calls meant to send a large number of heavily armed police officers to an address to respond to a fictitious threat—according to a statement released by Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.

Trump’s choice for ambassador to the UN, U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik, a Republican from New York, also said she received a bomb threat at her residence. Another New York Republican who was appointed to head the Environmental Protection Agency, former U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin, claimed on X that he received a pipe bomb threat with a pro-Palestinian message.
