Oregon lawmakers look to make it harder for tax delinquents to get government contracts

After The Oregonian/OregonLive revealed last year that the head of a real estate company that received tens of millions of dollars in state contracts was one of Oregon’s largest tax delinquents, and some of his businesses owed property taxes, lawmakers in Oregon are searching for ways to stop companies that haven’t paid taxes from obtaining and maintaining lucrative government contracts.

The House Revenue Committee proposed requiring state agencies to verify that all companies applying for state contracts are in conformity with Oregon tax rules and to periodically verify compliance.
