Compared to the previous year, the percentage of Portland listings that mention the popular sport has risen by 159%.
Two further house trends that are anticipated to persist until 2025 were shown by Zillow’s nationwide research of millions of for-sale listings in 2023 versus 2024: increasing demand for comfortable features like vintage fixtures, home libraries, and luxurious spa-inspired wet rooms, as well as technology like solar panels that help people live more sustainably and economically.
According to a news release from Amanda Pendleton, Zillow’s home trends analyst, energy-efficient and climate-resilient features are rapidly becoming more and more popular as homeowners want to reduce expenses, including insurance premiums.
Whole-house batteries that store extra energy from solar panels are the feature with the quickest rate of growth in Zillow’s 2025 home trends. A whole-home battery system, which serves as a generator in the event of a power outage or when the sun isn’t shining, has seen a 62% increase in Zillow listings since the previous year.
Electric induction cooktops are up 5%, and electric vehicle (EV) chargers are showing up in 34% more for-sale listings.

According to Zillow, 8% more properties now than a year ago include a second kitchen, which allows entertainers to conceal the grunt labor of meal preparation and cleanup.

In recent years, real estate ads have also highlighted instances in which homeowners have turned unused basketball or tennis courts into pickleball courts.
In an attempt to increase a property’s attractiveness, some real estate brokers claim that a private 20-by-44-foot pickleball court may fit in a large, level backyard.
According to the Association of Pickleball Professionals, the majority of the 50 million pickleball players in the United States play on private courts, some of which are sponsored by homeowner organizations, or public courts (searchable at Pickleheads.com).

Another potential disadvantage would be the close proximity to pickleball activities. Pickleball whacks have been recorded to reach blender-level noise levels of 85 dB, and neighbors complain about the nonstop popping noise made by the plastic balls.
