Los Angeles Oregon securityKobe Savage is debating whether or not to take advantage of the extra year of eligibility that the NCAA recently gave to former junior college athletes.
Savage had a career-high 61 tackles (2.5 for loss) and a pass breakup this season. He played for Tyler Junior College for two seasons before moving on to Kansas State. Chris Hampton, the safeties coach, discussed the new adjustment with the sixth-year senior earlier this week.
Savage stated, “I had that on my mind a little bit during the three days we had off for Christmas.” But aside from that, defeating Ohio State is truly my top priority.
The NCAA’s decision to issue a waiver that would have allowed athletes in a similar scenario as Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia to play in 2025–2026 if their eligibility had been slated to expire after the current academic year has affected three Oregon football players, including Savage. In the Pavia case, the NCAA is contesting the injunction.
Both offensive lineman George Silva IV and nose tackle Jamaree Caldwell have one more year of eligibility and have not yet announced their plans for the upcoming year, but Caldwell accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl.
