A finalist for the Maxwell and Davey O. Brien awards is Dillon Gabriel.
The Oregon quarterback is one of three contenders for the O Brien, which is given to the best quarterback in the country, and the Maxwell, which is given to the college football player of the year.
The other contenders for the Maxwell are Travis Hunter, a receiver/cornerback from Colorado, and Ashton Jeanty, a running back from Boise State. The other contenders for the O Brien are Shedeur Sanders of Colorado and Cam Ward of Miami.
These honors will be given out during the College Football Awards on December 12 (6 p.m., ESPN).
Gabriel has carried for 155 yards and six touchdowns and thrown for 3,066 yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions, ranking second in the nation in terms of completion percentage (73.8%). In addition to ranking second in career total yards (19,146), throwing touchdowns (147), and passing yards (17,931), he became the NCAA’s all-time career leader in touchdowns (180).
In program history, he is the fourth player to be a finalist for the Maxwell Award, following Dennis Dixon (2007), Marcus Mariota (2014), and Bo Nix (2023). The first Ducks player to get the honor was Mariota. Gabriel is one of the Ducks that are finalists for the O Brien award, which Mariota also won, along with Nix (2023), Mariota (2014), Dixon (2007), and Bill Musgrave (1989, 1990).
Another contender for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award is Gabriel.
