Oregon firefighter teams arrive in Los Angeles to fight California wildfires

Many of the 300 firefighters from Oregon who have arrived in Southern California have begun battling the fires that have ravaged Los Angeles and claimed at least ten lives.

Mariana Ruiz-Temple, the Oregon State Fire Marshal, said in a statement on Friday that “we are in contact with our teams, and they are in good spirits.” The Oregon fire department raised their hands and said they would go without a doubt, and I am pleased to work with them.

Following a request for assistance, the state fire marshal department stated on Wednesday that it was deploying 12 teams, totaling 240 firemen. Later, the department announced that it would be sending three more teams, for a total of 60 firemen.

The strike teams’ firefighters came from Clackamas and Multnomah counties, among other parts of the state. According to the state fire marshal, the number of firemen dispatched to California makes this the greatest out-of-state deployment in Oregon history.

The neighboring 13,690-acre Eaton fire has destroyed 972 houses and claimed five lives as of Friday, while the Palisades fire in Los Angeles County has burnt 20,438 acres, destroyed 85 structures, and claimed two lives, according to data from the California Fire Department. The Los Angeles area is now experiencing five active flames.
