The College Football Playoff revealed its 12-team national championship field on Sunday, with the Oregon Ducks as the top seed and one of four teams to receive a first-round bye.
The Ducks (13-0) will play the winner of the first-round matchup between No. 8 Ohio State (10-2) and No. 9 Tennessee (10-2) at the Rose Bowl in the quarterfinals. The Rose Bowl kickoff is set for January 1 at 2:00 p.m.
No. 2 Georgia (11-2), No. 3 Boise State (12-1) and No. 4 Arizona State (11-2) also earned a first-round bye and a spot in the top four seeds. All are conference champions, including Oregon, the Big Ten winner.
First-round matches are played at school stadiums for seeds No. 5 through No. 12. No. 5 Texas (11-2), No. 6 Penn State (11-2), No. 7 Notre Dame (11-1) and No. 8 Ohio State (10-2) are among them, followed by Tennessee (10-2) and Indiana (11-1) (SMU (11-2) and Clemson (10-3) (No. 12). All received CFP at-large spots, with the exception of ACC champion Clemson.
Games are scheduled for December 20–21. The quarterfinals will take place at four conventional bowls from December 31 to January 1. At the Orange and Cotton bowls on January 9 and 10, the quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals. The championship game is scheduled for January 20 at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
According to sports betting websites, Oregon is somewhat favored over Georgia to win this year’s CFP. The Ducks, who came close in 2010 and 2014, are vying for the school’s first football national championship.
Oregon is making their ninth Rose Bowl appearance. The Ducks’ 28-27 victory over Wisconsin in 2020 was the most recent. Oregon crushed Florida State 59-20 in a CFP semifinal in the 2015 Rose Bowl.
The schedule for the 2024–25 College Football Playoffs is as follows:
