Chicago police are investigating a shootout involving an off-duty Lyons Police Department sergeant that occurred on Saturday evening in the Washington Park neighborhood.
The incident disrupted a family reunion taking place in the park around 7 p.m.
According to officials, the confrontation began when the off-duty officer and another man got into an argument. The situation escalated when the man pulled out a gun, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the two.
A 46-year-old woman in the park was struck in the thigh during the shootout and was taken to the hospital in good condition.
The man involved in the altercation was shot multiple times and later sought treatment at a local hospital, where he remains in serious condition. The off-duty sergeant was not injured in the incident.
