In a doubleheader run-rule sweep over Buffalo and Southern Utah, two of the worst-performing programs on its schedule, Oregon softball began the 2025 season.
At the UNLV Desert Classic on Friday afternoon, the No. 23 Ducks defeated the Bulls 21-1 in five innings thanks to a grand slam from Kedre Luschar and a home run and five RBIs from Stefini Maake. Paige Sinicki and Emma Cox each hit two home runs as the Ducks defeated the Thunderbirds 18-6 in five innings.
Maake’s two-run double and Luschar’s grand slam in the first gave Oregon a 6-0 lead over Buffalo. In the second, Maake added a home run that went three runs.
In the fourth inning, it was 15-0 when Cox hit a double, a throwing error resulted in a run, Luschar hit an RBI single, Katie Flannery hit a two-run homer, and Rylee McCoy hit an RBI single. In the bottom of the inning, Buffalo scored its only run through an RBI walk.
In the fifth inning, McCoy hit a two-run home run, Kaylynn Jones and Ayanna Shaw each made RBI singles, and an error gave two runs to score.
In 3.1 innings, Lyndsey Grein gave up one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four, while in 1.2 innings, Staci Chambers gave up one hit, two walks, and four strikeouts.
Elise Sokolsky was unable to complete the frame, giving up four runs on four hits, one walk, and one hit batter in 0.2 innings as Oregon went behind 4-0 against Southern Utah in the first inning.
The Thunderbirds scored a run in the bottom of the first, but Cox and Sinicki opened the second with consecutive home runs.
Cox singled Ma Ake in the third inning after she hit an RBI double, and Luschar’s bunt later knotted the score at five, giving Oregon the lead for good. During the seven-run inning, Flannery hit an RBI single, Jones hit an RBI single, Kai Luschar drew an RBI walk, and Dezi Patmon drew an RBI walk.
Sinicki hit her first career grand slam after Cox added another solo in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth. Patmon finished the fifth with a sacrifice fly after Kai Luschar added a two-run single.
In 3.2 innings of decisive relief, Chamber gave up two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out nine batters. Grein finished the day with one strikeout in 0.2 IP.
On Saturday, Oregon will host UNLV and play Southern Utah starting at 10 a.m.
