No. 1 Oregon football recognizes Penn State ‘ballhawk’ Jaylen Reed, Dante Moore’s former high school teammate

Eugene Penn State’s top 10 pass defense, particularly safety Jaylen Reed, can be inferred from Oregon’s top 15 passing attack, despite their absence from the regular season.

Reed, the top tackler for the No. 4 Nittany Lions, was a teammate of Ducks backup quarterback Dante Moore for two years at Detroit’s Martin Luther King High School.

Throughout the season, Reed has racked up 75 tackles (4.5 for loss), 1.5 sacks, three interceptions, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble. Reed stated prior to the season that he speaks with Moore on a daily basis.

Reed noted at the Big Ten media days that Dante is a fantastic guy. I’m excited to see him in Oregon and see what he does there. I pray for him and send him my warmest wishes. We were just playing NCAA the other day, and I still speak to him every day.

He was an early competitor. Taking the starting position and seizing every chance when he came in throughout our high school years was excellent.

Even though they haven’t been on the same team for four years, Moore has already given Dillon Gabriel some information on Reed as the No. 1 Ducks (12-0, 9-0 Big Ten) started getting ready for Saturday’s conference title game.

“That has been discussed,” Gabriel stated. He has proven to be an excellent player thus far, and he is eager for the challenge. He’s always around the ball, a great tackler, and undoubtedly a ballhawk.

The tight end Terrance Ferguson will occasionally be asked to block Reed and get his attention as a receiver.

Ferguson claimed he would be asking the redshirting quarterback about the head of their defense after learning about Moore’s relationship with Reed.

Ferguson remarked, “He attacks the ball and is good in coverage.” Since those people are excellent players and the best players play the best players, I’m excited to compete against them.

Reed praised Moore’s skills in high school, where he began as a freshman, but he also said that during practice, his old teammate wasn’t completing touchdown passes against him.

“Oh no,” muttered Reed. Not my fault.
