Nitrate contamination has gotten worse in eastern Oregon over the past decade

According to a recent report published by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, nitrate pollution in eastern Oregon has gotten much worse over the last ten years.

This paper represents the first thorough data analysis of groundwater nitrate pollution in the Lower Umatilla Basin Groundwater Management Area since 2012. The region, which is roughly 550 square miles in size and is located in northern Morrow and northwest Umatilla counties, provides drinking water to thousands of people, primarily via domestic wells.
