New Foodie Haven: 2d Restaurant to Open at Time Out Market Chicago

According to Chicago Eater, 2d Restaurant is expanding with a new location in the Time Out Market at 916 W Fulton Market.

Currently known for its mochi doughnuts and comic book-style interior design in Lakeview, 2d Restaurant will soon bring its unique offerings to Fulton Market. The restaurant, which also operates at the vegan XMarket food hall near DuSable Lake Shore Drive’s Montrose exit in Uptown, offers a variety of treats including doughnuts, Vietnamese coffee, and ube milk.

According to its website, 2d Restaurant is the first hand-drawn, two-dimensional Asian eatery, designed by award-winning designer Vanessa Thanh Vu. It won the Best of Chicago 2022 award. The entire dining room gives the impression of walking into a comic book, making it a unique and memorable place for dining and photos.

The menu at 2d Restaurant, crafted by award-winning chef Kevin Yu, features trendy gourmet Asian treats. Some highlights include Japanese mochi donuts, Vietnamese coffee, Taiwanese fried chicken sandwiches, Taiwanese boba tea, and handcrafted beverages. Since opening, 2d has been ranked one of the top 20 donut shops.

The mochi donuts at 2d Restaurant stand out thanks to Chef Kevin’s secret recipe. These pastries are both chewy and fluffy, with an airy texture that has 60% less fat and gluten compared to traditional cake donuts.

At 2d Restaurant, the Taiwanese fried chicken sandwiches are also a favorite. Each sandwich is made with never-frozen fresh halal chicken thigh, hand-trimmed, and marinated in a secret five-spice buttermilk-based marinade for at least 24 hours before being deep-fried to perfection.
