A Chicago man will remain in custody as he awaits trial for allegedly supplying illegal drugs that led to the overdose and death of a Naperville man in early 2023. Prosecutors have identified the suspect as 38-year-old Christopher Hobson.
According to the prosecutors, the victim had arranged to receive illegal drugs from Hobson on February 20, 2023. The next day, an unidentified person delivered the drugs to the victim following Hobson’s instructions. The 33-year-old victim ingested the drugs and tragically died from an overdose.
The victim was found unresponsive in his home on February 22. Emergency services took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy later revealed that the cause of death was combined drug intoxication involving fentanyl, alprazolam, phenobarbital, and fluoxetine.
During the investigation, numerous bags containing illegal drugs were found at the victim’s home. Further inquiries led investigators to identify Hobson as the person responsible for supplying these drugs.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin commented on the case, saying, “The tragic death of the victim is yet another terrible reminder of the extreme danger illegal narcotics, particularly fentanyl, continue to be in our communities.” Berlin also expressed his condolences to the victim’s loved ones, emphasizing the devastating impact of such sudden and unnecessary loss.
Hobson was arrested on July 17, 2024, and has been charged with three counts of drug-induced homicide, one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance (Class 2 felony), and one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance (Class 3 felony). If found guilty, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
