Due to poor sales, Microchip Technology announced Monday that it will close its Tempe, Arizona, plant and lay off 500 employees the following year.
According to Microchip, the shutdown will ultimately result in an annual savings of $90 million. The business claims that its Gresham and Colorado factories can produce the same chips that it produces in Arizona.
