CHICAGO – A 22-year-old man known for his extensive community service was shot during an attempted robbery in Chicago’s Austin neighbourhood early Wednesday morning. The incident underscores the ongoing struggle with violence in the city, even as local residents strive to improve their neighbourhoods through acts of kindness and service.
The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. in the 700 block of Laramie Avenue. According to police, the victim was walking on the sidewalk when a black truck pulled up alongside him. An armed suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to rob the young man. During the confrontation, the suspect fired multiple shots, striking the victim. The suspect then fled the scene in the truck, leaving the victim critically injured.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the location and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. The identity of the victim has not been released, but authorities have described his condition as critical.
