ROCKFORD, Ill. – A deadly shooting incident occurred on Sunday night at San Jose Restaurant on East State Street, leading to the death of 40-year-old Victor Ballesteros. The Rockford Police confirmed his death on Monday night.
Around 10 PM on Sunday, the Rockford Police received reports of multiple gunshots at San Jose Restaurant, located at 3725 E. State Street. According to a manager at the restaurant, a group of people had just arrived and were still in the parking lot when the shootout started. They never made it inside the restaurant.
At the same time, there was a report of a car crashing into the Golden Bowl Asian restaurant, which is down the street at 3415 E. State Street.
Police believe that a fight broke out among multiple suspects in the parking lot of San Jose Restaurant, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Besides Victor Ballesteros, another victim, a 19-year-old, is still in critical condition following the shooting.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shootout. The Rockford Police are actively investigating the case to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.

Interestingly, this is not the first incident at San Jose Restaurant this month. On June 11th, police responded to a call from the same restaurant after a customer who didn’t pay for their meal allegedly punched an employee. In that case, Alex Coulter, 30, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery in a public place and resisting an officer.
The Rockford community is in shock over this violent event. Authorities are working hard to solve the case and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The police have also increased patrols in the area to ensure public safety.
