Rockford Police have apprehended Marquez Jones, 37, following a high-speed pursuit and foot chase that led to his arrest on multiple charges.
According to authorities, SCOPE Detectives were conducting patrols near North Rockton Avenue when they observed Jones driving a GMC Yukon westbound on Knight Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on July 9th. Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop after noticing Jones speeding, but he allegedly disregarded their signals.
During the pursuit, Jones reportedly collided with a parked 2015 Dodge Durango on Kilburn Avenue but continued to evade police. The chase culminated in a foot pursuit in the 2900 block of Searles Avenue, where officers apprehended Jones on the north side of the Collier Garden apartment complex.
Upon questioning, Jones admitted to fleeing because of an active arrest warrant, expressing his reluctance to return to jail.
Jones now faces a litany of charges, including aggravated fleeing, property damage, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with an expired registration, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving with a revoked license, and resisting an officer.
