Fast-fashion retailer Forever 21 is shutting down all of its Louisiana locations as part of a sweeping nationwide pullback following its second bankruptcy filing in six years.
The closures will impact six stores across the state, including locations in Baton Rouge, Bossier City, Gretna, Lafayette, Metairie, and New Orleans.
The retailer, known for its affordable and trendy apparel, has struggled with mounting financial losses, changing shopping habits, and intense competition from online brands like Shein and Temu. Parent company F21 OpCo announced plans to close 354 stores nationwide, with locations expected to be vacated by the end of April.
Forever 21’s Louisiana stores will hold closing sales before shutting down permanently. The closures reflect a broader trend of declining mall foot traffic and rising retail vacancies nationwide.
“With no viable path forward, we have made the difficult decision to implement a court-supervised marketing process,” said Chief Financial Officer Brad Sell. The company seeks a buyer in a last-ditch effort to stay afloat.
