Letter from the Editor: Going strong at the start of our 175th year

The front page of The Oregonian will undergo a little but noteworthy modification on Wednesday. Turning the volume number from 174 to 175 will mark the beginning of our 175th year of continuous publication.

Our masthead on the editorial page states that we were founded on December 4, 1850. That was nine years prior to Oregon’s statehood.
