Kotek calls legislative special session to fund Oregon wildfire costs

In order to address the costs of Oregon’s record wildfire season, Governor Tina Kotek announced on Tuesday that she will bring lawmakers back to work in a special session in December.

After 1.9 million acres burned throughout the state this year, Kotek’s office announced in a news release that Kotek will request $218 million from lawmakers to assist the state fire marshal and the Department of Forestry in covering costs. That is three times the average for the year.
