Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is expected to announce her running mate next week. Among the top contenders is Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, who has gained significant support.
Pritzker has already met twice with Harris’s vetting team this week and began submitting the necessary vetting materials last week. The search for a suitable vice-presidential candidate is being led by former Attorney General Eric Holder, a process that typically takes months. However, Pritzker’s consideration seems to be progressing quickly.
Pritzker has garnered backing from various groups, including abortion rights supporters, business leaders, and labor leaders, all of whom are publicly endorsing him for the vice-presidential role. Despite the strong support, Pritzker has remained tight-lipped about the opportunity, focusing instead on the upcoming election.
“Whatever happens in this process that I understand is going on, my job is to make sure that we win in November,” Pritzker stated.
In addition to Pritzker, other potential candidates being vetted include Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Each of these candidates brings unique strengths to the table, making the final selection process highly competitive.
Pritzker’s strong track record as Governor of Illinois, along with his progressive stance on key issues, has made him a compelling choice for Harris’s running mate. His leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his commitment to economic growth and social justice have earned him widespread recognition and respect.
