Jimmy Travon Pierce was convicted this week by a Washington County jury of second-degree murder in connection with the 2017 shooting outside a Beaverton strip club that claimed the life of a 36-year-old man.
According to court documents, Pierce was also found guilty by jurors on Wednesday of first-degree attempted murder for pursuing a second victim.
The incident happened early on May 19, 2017, outside the Xpose club on Southwest Canyon Road. The shooter shot Portland resident Ramon Harris twice, first outside the club and then from the street close to Southwest 103rd Avenue, according to police at the time, suggesting that Harris was the murder victim.
After being shot several times in the head and chest, Harris was transported to a hospital, where he passed away.
According to The Oregonian/OregonLive at the time, a party bus carrying roughly 20 people had just pulled up to the strip club when the shooting started, creating a chaotic scene.
According to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office, Robert Nelson, the victim of the attempted murder, informed police that he had to jump behind parked cars to escape being shot. Two vehicles were damaged by bullets at the scene: a limousine bus and a Chrysler 300.
The shooting, according to the prosecution, was gang-related. According to a press release from the district attorney’s office, investigators looked at surveillance footage recorded inside Xpose and discovered that Mr. Pierce was there with his gang members when the victims went in with a group of companions. Both sets of men started fighting with one another and had connections to different criminal organizations in Portland. Mr. Pierce was observed leaving the club just ahead of Mr. Nelson and Mr. Harris. After that, the shooting took place in the parking lot.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to the prosecution, connected spent shot casings discovered at the Xpose site to another shooting that took place six days prior in Southeast Portland.
In Washington County, Pierce is still detained without bond until sentence, which authorities anticipate will take place in early 2025.
