A federal judge on Monday granted immunity from state prosecution on a charge of criminally negligent murder to a federal narcotics agent who is accused of running a stop sign and striking and killing a bicycle during a surveillance mission in Salem last year.
After hearing testimony all day, including from the 39-year-old Drug Enforcement Administration agent Samuel Troy Landis who was charged with a crime, U.S. District Judge Michael J. McShane issued the preliminary finding from the bench late Monday afternoon.
