On January 2, Nathan Vasquez, who will take office as Multnomah County’s district attorney, said that he is boosting a number of seasoned prosecutors and hiring an outsider to bolster his leadership team.
The next DA’s first assistant, or second-in-command, will be Chief Deputy Kirsten Snowden, a 25-year veteran of the office who recorded multiple high-profile murder convictions this year.
In an internal email addressed to all staff on Tuesday, Vasquez, a 23-year veteran prosecutor in the office, said that three chief deputies—Todd Jackson, Mariel Mota, and Amanda Nadell—will report to Snowden.
According to Vasquez, each of these individuals have the abilities, dedication, expertise, and dependability we look for in our leaders. I am completely certain that this group will run our office with self-assurance, teamwork, and unwavering commitment.
Since being assigned to lead the office’s murder squad in September, Jackson has served as chief deputy. Nadell and Mota are getting promoted. As a result of the reorganization, Glen Banfield will now serve as a senior deputy rather than the chief deputy.
Lastly, Adam Brown, a former administrator, has been appointed by Vasquez as his chief of staff. Brown is quitting his position as Clackamas County’s deputy director. He will now be in charge of budget and personnel issues.
Vasquez concluded his staff email by praising departing DA Mike Schmidt, whom he had defeated in the election. He expressed gratitude to his former employer for overseeing the office and for establishing the justice integrity and homicide units, both of which are anticipated to remain in place under the new administration.
The annual compensation of the elected district attorney is $272,725.00. Jackson, Mota, and Nadell will all make $260,000 a year, while Snowden’s new income will be $279,526. Banfield will earn $230,838.72 while Brown will earn $190,000.
