A majestic bald eagle was recently shot and killed in Illinois, and officers are now searching for the person responsible. On June 12th, the Illinois Conservation Police received a call about an injured bald eagle near Camden, a town located about 30 miles south of Macomb.
Upon arrival, conservation officers found the eagle with a noticeable injury to its left wing. The bird was taken to a wildlife center for treatment, where it was discovered that the eagle had a broken left wing and a pellet lodged in its right side. Despite efforts to save it, the eagle succumbed to its injuries on June 17th.

The pellet that killed the bald eagle was identified as a .177 caliber projectile, commonly used in pellet guns. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted by calling the department or visiting their website to use the poachers hotline.
