Prominent Illinois Republicans are now backing Vice President Kamala Harris. On Sunday, her campaign launched “Republicans for Harris,” aimed at mobilizing and persuading Republican voters to support her.
Notable GOP figures supporting Harris include former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, former Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, and former Representatives Adam Kinzinger and Joe Walsh.
Joe Walsh explained that more establishment Republicans are now willing to support Harris. He noted that many Republicans were not excited about Joe Biden. He believes Harris has gained significant enthusiasm among some Republicans, especially after her recent successes. According to Walsh, Harris needs to build a coalition of far-left progressives and “Never Trump” Republicans to win against Donald Trump, who is the favorite to win the next election.

Walsh acknowledged that those joining this movement likely won’t be elected to Republican office again. He said this is why many supporters are former or retired officeholders.
