In a disturbing series of incidents, gunmen have robbed six people outside hotels in Chicago’s Loop and West Loop neighborhoods over the past two nights. Authorities believe the same group may be behind both sets of robberies.
On Wednesday morning, three individuals were targeted in the 100 block of West Randolph around 2:03 a.m. According to Chicago police, a black SUV pulled up and a man with a firearm robbed a 25-year-old man on the sidewalk.
The robbers then moved across the street, where they targeted a 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman. One victim lost both his phone and his hotel room key at The Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel Chicago.
Police later tracked down the suspected getaway vehicle, a black Range Rover, in West Garfield Park. The car had been abandoned and was found with a stolen license plate, traced through location data from one of the victims’ phones.
