Florida’s barbecue scene is bracing for change as one of its favorite eateries, The Bearded Pig, prepares to close its Jacksonville Beach restaurant.
Known for its mouthwatering brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and classic southern sides, the chain—which also operates a popular location on Kings Avenue in historic San Marco—has become a cherished part of local culinary culture.
The Jacksonville Beach outlet, a $1.4 million establishment that has attracted a loyal following and thousands of positive Google reviews, is set to close on April 6, 2025. In a recent Facebook announcement, the restaurant cited soaring construction costs and staffing shortages as key reasons for the closure, noting that expenses nearly doubled the initial budget.
In a pivot to preserve its legacy, co-owner Chad Munsey shared plans to concentrate efforts on the original San Marco location. Munsey also hinted at an exciting new concept, “The Bearded Piglett,” which is expected to debut at The Block Jax—an outdoor food hall opening later this year. This new direction promises to expand the menu while keeping the spirit of the original barbecue experience alive.
Patrons have expressed mixed emotions on social media. Longtime fans like Amy lamented the closure, saying, “This makes me so sad. We go several times a month. We love The Bearded Pig, and the only restaurant we find worth the drive.”
Others, like Mary and Bridget, offered words of support, acknowledging the tough realities of running a business while expressing hope for future visits at the San Marco location.
As The Bearded Pig transitions its focus, its loyal customers remain hopeful that the new venture will continue to deliver the authentic, hearty flavors that have made it a standout in Florida’s vibrant food scene.
