Two women are facing a range of criminal charges in connection to a series of thefts at Fairfax County businesses more than seven months after the crimes occurred.
In the most recent case, on July 19, 2024, officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of District Avenue in Merrifield’s Mosaic District at 5:51 p.m. for a grand larceny report.
“The complainant reported that three women entered the business and stole merchandise,” the Fairfax County Police Department said in a press release on Friday (March 28). “The suspects fled the area in a vehicle prior to police arrival.”
The stolen merchandise was valued at $4,238, police said.
According to the FCPD, an investigation led detectives in its criminal investigations division to identify two of the suspects as a woman from Maryland and a D.C. woman, both of them 20 years old. They were also able to connect the women to other retail thefts that occurred last spring and summer:
- May 15, 2024: Springfield Town Center (6600 block of Springfield Mall), $1,345 stolen
- June 3: Reston Town Center (11900 block of Market Street), $5,212 stolen
- June 3: 5700 block of Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads, $1,000 stolen
The Maryland woman has been linked to all four cases, while the D.C. woman is believed to have been involved in three of them, police say.
After identifying the women, the FCPD detectives learned that they were both in custody in other jurisdictions. The Maryland woman had been arrested in Montgomery County on separate charges but was extradited to Fairfax County on March 19.
She has now been charged on 17 different counts, per court records. The charges include:
- Four counts of grand larceny
- Three counts of larceny with the intent to sell
- Three counts of conspiracy to commit larceny
- Two hit-and-run counts
- Assaulting a law enforcement officer
- Eluding
- Reckless driving
- Driving without an operator’s license
- Altered or forged license plates.
The Maryland woman was released from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond. She’s scheduled to face a preliminary hearing in Fairfax County General District Court on June 23.
The D.C. woman remains in custody at the Howard County Jail in Maryland but is expected to be extradited to Fairfax after the legal process there is complete. Detectives have obtained warrants charging her with three counts each of grand larceny, larceny with the intent to sell and conspiracy to commit larceny.
The FCPD announced the charges against the two women hours after holding a press conference about the arrests of three people in an alleged burglary ring that targeted Ulta Beauty stores across the D.C. region, reportedly stealing over $180,000 in merchandise.
