Cold weather advisory issued for much of northwestern Oregon, including Portland

A chilly weather alert was issued Tuesday by the Portland National Weather Service for a large portion of the Willamette Valley and northwest Oregon, including Portland.

The organization predicts extremely chilly temperatures in the region, ranging from 20 to 25 degrees.

The alert is in effect from Tuesday night at 10 p.m. to Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.

According to the agency’s advisory, prolonged exposure to such low temperatures might result in hypothermia.

The Multnomah County website states that shelters are not open at this time. However, the anticipated conditions do satisfy the requirements for the increased outreach program run by the Joint Office of Homeless Services.

The Joint Office separates the County into zones during enhanced outreach and collaborates with community organizations and nonprofits to guarantee that each zone has one or more teams checking on individuals without shelter and delivering life-safety supplies, such as blankets, hand warmers, and warm clothing, according to the county.

Anyone in need of transportation or shelter should call 211info at 1-866-698-6155 or 2-1-1.

Call the non-emergency response line at 503-823-3333 and ask for a welfare check if you witness someone who seems to need assistance. Call 9-1-1 if you witness someone who seems to be in danger.
