In a recent incident on Chicago’s North Side, Nehemiah Jones, 18, faces charges of armed robbery after allegedly brandishing a gun and stealing an electric bike and phone from a Rogers Park resident. Judge Deidre Dyer has ordered Jones to remain in custody pending trial.
The robbery occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. on June 12, with Jones apprehended by police shortly after he was spotted in Rogers Park wearing a sweatshirt matching the description of the suspect. According to prosecutors, Jones approached a 22-year-old man and requested to borrow his phone to make a call for transportation. Initially compliant, the victim handed over his phone, but when Jones demanded the passcode, the situation escalated dramatically.
Upon questioning the need for the passcode, Jones allegedly produced a gun and demanded additional possessions from the victim. Fearing for his safety upon seeing the firearm, the victim quickly dismounted his e-bike, sought refuge in a nearby apartment building, and alerted emergency services.
Jones reportedly fled the scene with the victim’s phone and bike. Law enforcement officials stated that both a witness and the victim positively identified Jones, further supported by surveillance footage showing the suspect during the robbery.
