A Chicago man is grappling with the devastating loss of his mother, brother, and cousin, all of whom were shot and killed in their home on the Fourth of July. The tragic incident, which also left two others injured, has left the family shattered and seeking answers.
Frank Mixon, who was home from college at the time, shared his harrowing experience of the night his family was massacred. He described hearing screams and shouts from upstairs, followed by the horrifying discovery of his loved ones. His mother, 45-year-old Nakeeshia Strong, his cousin, 24-year-old Capri Edwards, and his seven-year-old brother, Bryson Orr, were all shot and killed.
Mixon vividly recalled the traumatic scene, stating that he will never be able to erase the images from his mind. He described the atmosphere as cold and surreal, with blood everywhere. Despite the chaos, his immediate concern was for his little brother, Bryson, whom he had always been protective of and had helped raise to be respectful and mature.
Mixon’s involvement in the CHAMPS Male Mentoring program at Gary Comer College Prep, a decision strongly supported by his mother, has played a significant role in his life. Vondale Singleton, the founder of CHAMPS, emphasized how Nakeeshia Strong ensured her son participated in the program, knowing the dangers of the streets.
Determined to honor his mother’s wishes and legacy, Mixon is channeling his pain into completing his education. He expressed his resolve to keep pushing forward, as his mother would have wanted him to. The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a previous altercation, but police have not provided further details.
