A Texas inmate serving a 20-year sentence for aggravated robbery, robbery, and burglary was captured three miles from the Clemens Unit trusty camp in Angleton after escaping last night.
During a routine headcount at midnight on Sunday, security guards discovered that 33-year-old Kidanny Robles was missing from the lower-security housing facility. Authorities, including local and state law enforcement and the Office for the Inspector General, launched an extensive search operation using drones, K-9 units, and helicopters.
The prison canceled all visitations on Sunday to assist with the search. Robles was found nearly 10 hours later, hiding three miles from the prison. When he refused to comply with orders, a Texas Department of Criminal Justice captain shot him in the arm, leading to his capture.
Robles, who also has a 180-day sentence for possession of a controlled substance, managed to escape due to potential procedural lapses and human error. The incident has prompted an internal investigation, with the prison administration pledging to review and tighten security measures.
