Vice President Kamala Harris has confirmed that she will participate in a second debate with former President Donald Trump, though the exact timing is still being finalized. The Harris-Walz campaign released a statement on Thursday declaring that the “debate about debates is over,” confirming that Trump’s campaign accepted their proposal for three debates, which include two presidential debates and one vice presidential debate.
The Harris campaign emphasized that if Trump shows up on September 10 for their debate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’ running mate, will face off against Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, on October 1. Additionally, Harris and Trump would have another chance to debate on a date in October, yet to be determined.
Both campaigns have tentatively agreed on a debate for September 10, though Trump’s team had previously suggested alternative dates of September 4 and September 25. The details are still being worked out between the two teams, leaving the final schedule in question.
While the Harris campaign made a public statement about the debate dates, Trump’s team has not yet officially responded to the announcement. The back-and-forth over scheduling reflects the high stakes and strategic planning behind each side’s debate preparation.
For the vice-presidential debate, JD Vance and Tim Walz have agreed to meet on October 1 in a session moderated by CBS News. However, Vance also agreed to a CNN-hosted debate against Walz on September 18, but Walz has not yet confirmed his participation for that date. The debate season is shaping up to be a critical moment in the campaign, with both sides preparing for intense discussions that could sway undecided voters.
