Caitlin Clark declines invite to a 3-point shootout at NBA All-Star weekend

Caitlin Clarke will not play her first 3-point game as a professional until July, when Indianapolis hosts the WNBA All-Star weekend.

According to her managers at Excel Sports, the Fever star turned down an opportunity to take part in a unique challenge during NBA All-Star weekend next month on Wednesday.

During last season’s NBA All-Star weekend, there had been talks for Clark to play in a matchup akin to the one that had Stephen Curry facing former Oregon Ducks and current New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu in a 3-point shootout. Curry’s tight victory over Ionescu was one of the weekend’s highlights.

When the NBA All-Star Game is held in the Bay Area in two weeks, there have been talks about extending that shootout this year.

Earlier this month, Ionescu told The Associated Press that she would attend the All-Star celebrations, but she would not say if she would participate in any on-court events.

Clark’s decision was initially reported by the Sports Business Journal.

After the Hawkeyes play No. 4USC on Sunday, Clark’s Iowa jersey will be retired, so she will have a busy weekend.
