In a heartwarming rescue operation, a baby screech owl found itself in need of help after venturing out of its nest prematurely.
On Tuesday, during renovations at a home in Cheektowaga, workers noticed a baby owl on the ground near the driveway. Although the owlet appeared alert, it wasn’t moving much.
Concerned for the owl’s safety, the homeowner and workers promptly contacted the SPCA. The SPCA Wildlife Department responded swiftly, taking the owlet into their care. Experts believe the young owl had fallen from its nest before it was fully ready.
While the baby owl didn’t seem injured, it’s too young to fend for itself in the wild yet, as determined by the SPCA.
The next step for the owlet involves being transferred to the Messinger Woods Wildlife Care and Education Center for specialized care. This center is experienced in nurturing owls of similar ages.

Once the baby owl grows stronger and becomes independent enough, it will eventually be reintroduced into its natural habitat.
