Brock Purdy, Nick Bosa out for the San Francisco 49ers’ game against the Green Bay Packers

When the San Francisco 49ers meet the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, they will be without their two best offensive and defensive players.

Coach Kyle Shanahan announced on Friday that both edge rusher Nick Bosa and quarterback Brock Purdy will not play. Trent Williams, a left tackle, may also be out for the 49ers.

Purdy will miss the first game of his three-year career due to the extreme pain in his right throwing shoulder. Against the Packers, backup Brandon Allen will start. Shanahan stated that he did not believe Purdy’s injury would be a permanent problem. However, the 49ers were taken aback by the intensity of the pain.

Purdy completed light throwing prior to Thursday’s practice, but he departed the session early, raising concerns. Purdy was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice.

Shanahan told reporters on Friday, “I don’t want to say there’s long-term concern. You know we got the MRI on Monday, and we thought he just needed some rest and really weren’t concerned about him not being good this week.” However, he was taken aback by the sensation when he started up on Thursday. We had to shut him down, and I’m not sure how to feel about it. Given how it responded this week, it’s really up in the air for next week, but the MRI doesn’t look like that, so everything should be fine. We’ll have to wait till Monday to find out.

After leaving the 49ers’ Week 12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week due to right side soreness in the third quarter and failing to return, there were worries about Bosa. Due to injuries to his obliques and hips, Bosa was declared out.

Williams tested his ankle during pre-game warm-ups and will be a game-time decision. Despite the fact that he did not practice over the week, the team is certain he will participate.
