Best Travis Hunter prop bets for Utah vs. Colorado: Fade the Heisman frontrunner?

Before Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter stepped up and broke away from the pack, the Heisman Trophy odds contest was close.

In the past two games, the Jackson State transfer has three touchdowns and 252 receiving yards. Along with leading the Buffaloes with seven passes defended, he is also giving opposing quarterbacks headaches.

At FanDuel, Hunter’s Heisman odds are as low as -115, giving him an advantage over Ashton Jeanty and Dillon Gabriel at +360. The game against Utah this week is the ideal time to fade the possible No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, but oddsmakers are inflating Hunter’s prop bets.

Best Travis Hunter prop bets for Utah vs. Colorado

Under 96.5 receiving yards

Caesars has the best odds at -111.

From a viewing standpoint, it isn’t the most thrilling to wager on Hunter’s getting prop to go under. But it’s justified this week.

Three of the last five games have seen Hunter go under 96.5 yards, and Utah poses a real threat to keep up the pattern. Since September 21, the Utes, a below-average squad, have failed to win a game. Utah defeated non-power league teams in two of its four victories.

Utah’s offense, which averages 17 points per game against conference opponents, bears a large portion of the burden for the team’s inadequacies. The Utes have played excellent defense.

Utah is especially excellent against the pass and gives up the 11th fewest points in the country. When facing the Utes, opposing quarterbacks have the second-best completion rate in the FBS at 49.4%. I think Hunter’s numbers will drop from the previous two games since this is the greatest defense Colorado will play in the regular season.

Longest reception under 30.5 yards

Bet365’s best odds are -115.

In six of Colorado’s nine games, Hunter’s longest reception was fewer than thirty-one yards. One of quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ skills is coming up with huge plays, which Utah coach Kyle Whittingham has probably been emphasizing.

Explosive plays are rarely permitted by the Utes’ pass defense. CFBStats.com reports that Utah has only given up 10 receptions of 30 yards or more.

Utah can minimize Hunter’s output by applying pressure to Sanders. Shedeur has the fifth-most sacks taken in the FBS with 28. Sanders might not have many chances and will require time to develop big plays.
