Beaverton man faces DUI charges in Portland streetcar crash

A Beaverton man who allegedly crashed into a streetcar pavilion in Northwest Portland on Saturday after escaping from police in a stolen vehicle is suspected by Portland police of operating under the influence of alcohol.

Edgar Castro, 29, was identified by the police as the driver.

Castro was allegedly operating a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee in Northwest Portland on Saturday. Castro crashed into a streetcar stop at Northwest 10th Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street after speeding down one-way streets as police attempted to stop the Jeep, according to a news release from the police.

Witnesses shared video evidence with The Oregonian/OregonLive. Three individuals flee for their lives as Jeremy Bennett depicts the automobile smashing into the streetcar stop and onto the platform.

The video then shows a police officer pursuing the guy as he tries to escape on foot. Castro was arrested on 14 accusations, including three counts of dangerously endangering another person, five counts of careless driving, and felony charges of possessing a stolen vehicle and evading a police officer.
