An Avondale car wash fell victim to a brazen burglary on Wednesday night, part of a three-crime spree that rattled the city. The incident, which took place at Neon Hand Car Wash, was captured on video, showcasing the burglars’ determined efforts to break in.
Around 9:15 p.m., two suspects arrived in a white Hyundai SUV, armed with crowbars. They targeted the steel security door, prying it open with considerable effort. Despite their struggles, the burglars managed to force the door open after several minutes of persistent attempts.
Once inside, one of the thieves attempted to access the cash register, which had a key left on it for emergencies. Instead of simply taking the cash, the burglar damaged the register significantly, throwing it to the floor and rendering it unusable. The destroyed register, valued at much more than the cash it contained, was a major loss for owner Faiz Khan.
Khan, who had only recently opened the car wash, expressed his frustration with the rising crime rates. “This is incredible, like too much stuff going on in the city,” Khan said, calling for increased action from city leaders. He worries that the frequent burglaries might force him to close his business.
