Alaska Airlines tech issue briefly grounds planes in Seattle, disrupts bookings on Cyber Monday

According to the airline, a technical glitch caused Alaska Airlines to temporarily ground aircraft in Seattle on Monday morning and cause issues for customers attempting to book flights on its website into the afternoon.

The Seattle-based business said in a statement that the problem Monday morning caused major operational disruptions, including flight delays. In order to relieve aircraft congestion, the airline stated it asked for a 40-minute ground stay at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The cause of the disruptions was not made clear, and no other information was provided regarding the technical issue.

On Monday afternoon, the company posted a notice on its website stating that it was having trouble booking flights via the contact center, mobile app, and website.

The message said, “We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and sincerely apologize to our guests who are impacted.”

The issues arose at the beginning of the business’s Cyber Monday flight sale. The airline also expressed regret in comments from its X account to consumers who had complained about delayed flights, missed flights, and issues with the airline’s website and app.

Due to what the airline described as major interruptions from an unidentified technical issue, Alaska Airlines planes were grounded in Seattle in late September.
