A sunny Wednesday is on tap in Portland, gusty east winds near gorge

Gusty east winds will keep Portland and Vancouver clean on Wednesday, providing a largely sunny day despite the fog covering much of western Oregon.

Although there are still problems with air stagnation and fog in the middle and southern Willamette Valley, the National Weather Service predicts bright skies and a high of roughly 50 degrees for Portland on Wednesday.

As severe winds sweep across the western Columbia River Gorge, gusts of 35 to 40 mph are predicted to reach eastern areas of the metro area.

A weak upper level system that will aid in weakening the strong high pressure that has been keeping the sky clear for several days will be preceded by an increase in clouds overnight. The low clouds and fog that have been persisting in the southern Willamette Valley should be pushed out by this.

Thursday is a largely overcast day in Portland, with highs of around fifty degrees during the day.

Rain is expected in coastal areas on Friday when the next system approaches the area. Later in the day, there is very little possibility of showers in Portland. The high will be close to fifty-two degrees.

According to extended prediction models, this weekend is likely to see rainy conditions as a moist trough moves into the metro area by Saturday morning. Rain is expected through Sunday. The high will be moderate, with lows in the 50s anticipated.

With an advisory in effect until 11 AM, freezing fog is back in the John Day-Ochoco Basin, North-Central Oregon, and Central Oregon this morning.Xa3kHPJmB6 #orwx#fogpic.twitter.com
