Vote for the best pasta in the Portland area: Readers Choice Awards

It’s Wednesday morning, and we’re back to our usual weekly routine of asking you to begin voting for another category of The Oregonian’s Readers Choice Awards. We hope you all had as much fun relaxing over the Thanksgiving holiday as we did.

The ten eateries listed below received the most recommendations after we totaled your suggestions for the greatest pasta in the Portland region. What is your favorite?

A Cena

The phrase Ah-Chayna, which translates to “To dinner,” is what an Italian mother could yell to her sluggish children.With a changing seasonal menu, this trattoria in the Sellwood district serves cured meats and homemade pasta. Agnolotti, a corn and mascarpone raviolini with poached lobster, and an eggplant Parmesan with house-pulled mozzarella are among the current menu items.

Readers choice awards

Campana

Earlier this year, our dining reviewer Michael Russell rated Campana as Portland’s greatest pasta restaurant. Come in while the penne alla vodka and rigatoni Amatriciana are only $17 during the fantastic happy hour.

Gabbiano s

Gabbiano is a red-sauce restaurant that is brimming with melted mozzarella and friendly service. The spaghetti and meatballs, a large plate of house-made noodles with garlic-spiced beef and pig meatballs drowned in delicious marinara, are the dish to get if you just order one item from chef Liz Serrone’s kitchen.

Gilda s

Gilda’s was our readers’ first choice when we asked them to choose the best Italian restaurant in 2017. The restaurant, which bears the name of chef Marco’s grandmother, serves spaghetti and meatballs with a San Marzano tomato sauce and Pappardelle alla Salsiccia with homemade sausage and crimini mushrooms.

Grassa

Rick Gencarelli, the chef and owner of Lardo, opened this handmade pasta restaurant, which we selected as one of Portland’s 40 greatest low-cost restaurants for 2020. The Butternut Squash Tortelli’s Baked Creste di Gallo, which features Oregon chanterelles, is a great way to enjoy fall.

Grassapdx.com has six sites in the Portland area, including one at Portland International Airport.

Gumba

Before Gumba opened a physical pasta shop in 2020, it was voted The Oregonian’s best new food cart of 2017. It still serves excellent homemade pasta dishes, such as spaghettini with squid ink and pappardelle with braised short ribs of beef.

Justa Pasta

Using a slightly nebulous definition of downtown Portland, we selected Justa Pasta as one of the top ten affordable restaurants in 2019. They provide a build-your-own-pasta-bowl where you may select the kind of homemade noodle and sauce, in addition to a number of daily specials.

Montelupo

Montelupo, one of our favorite spots for summertime alfresco dining, offers a market full of pasta and entertaining pantry products in addition to delicious salads, colorful pastas, and other Italian-inspired foods.

The market starts at 10 a.m., and dinner service is from 5 to 9 p.m. at 344 N.E. 28th Ave.; montelupo.co

Nostrana

An Italian organization just named Portland’s Cathy Whims, a longstanding Italian standard bearer, one of the top 50 pizza places in America. For one of Portland’s greatest dinners, start with the well-known radicchio salad and finish with al dente pasta dripping with sage butter or tomato-butter sauce.

Pastificio d Oro

Chef Chase Dopson uses a mattarello, a large wooden rolling pin, to spread out the dough for the pasta by hand at Pastificio d Oro, one of our favorite new restaurants of 2022. Try the Lombrichi allamatriciana, which comes with tomato sauce, crispy pork guanciale, and thick spaghetti.
